Why Everyone Needs An Air Purifier
Air Purifier. The new buzzword in everyone’s mind. There are a lot of articles out there talking about the pro’s and con’s of having one, so we decided to call upon our content creator again and have her give us an honest account.
Here it is:
Delivery Day!
I have really been looking forward to receiving my air purifier. I have honestly always wanted one, but because of my indecisive mind, I have yet to buy one. I am a smoker, and yes, I smoke inside. I also live surrounded by sugar cane that burns and the smoke enters my home. I also have a tech-savvy husband who likes to weld and solder inside.
Basically, I have a million reasons for needing an air purifier in my home.
The day my air purifier arrived, I couldn’t have been more excited. The kind delivery man carried it to my door, and I proceeded to unbox it and set it up.
Setting Up An Air Purifier:
Once again, I was met with an extremely well put together manual, as well as some thank you fliers from the amazing team at Solenco.
One thing that stood out to me was the size of the unit. In my mind, I thought that air purifiers were these small round objects, with water in them that swirled around. The Solenco unit was much bigger than that, however, the design is extremely slim, so it fits against a wall and blends in with your other furniture.
When setting it up, the manual explains each step really well, and everything is neatly packaged within the unit so set up is quick and easy.
There is also a remote that comes with it, which is super handy when you are sitting on the couch or lying in bed and want to change settings.
Once set up and plugged in, you simply switch it on, choose what speed you want it on, the timer interval and VIOLA!
The feature I love the most on this unit is the air cleanliness scale. It tells you if your room is dirty, bad, normal or clean. With the reading, a light shines based on this and the colours look awesome in whatever room you set it up in.
There is also an AUTO option. The unit decides which settings are best based upon the room reading.
If you have children, you can lock the machine by holding down the SLEEP button for 3-5 seconds.
Air Purifier Maintenance:
There is a UV lamp inside the unit that will need replacement after some time. This is a simple case of removing gently with a clean cloth or tissue and replacing it with a new one.
After operating for 4230 hours or 6 months, the REPLACE FILTER light will come on, this indicates that the HEPA and Activated Carbon filter needs to be replaced. They need to be replaced simultaneously. Before replacement, these filters need to be cleaned with a vacuum brush attachment every 3 months. Please note that for replacement it can be between 6-12 months depending on the environment.
The pre filter can be washed in water. Just ensure it is completely dry before putting it back into the unit. This filter can be used for up to 2 years.
Something that also needs to be done, is cleaning the air inlet and outlet, as well as the dust sensor.
Air Purifier Purification System:
There are multiple levels of cleaning within this unit. A combination of H13 HEPA filter(medical grade filter), an Activated Carbon Filter and the UV-C light.
- HEPA captures allergens. It is over 99.975% efficient in trapping allergens and airborne contaminants.
- Activated Carbon Filter removes odours.
- UV-C light enhances germ killing.
- Pre Filter traps larger particles such as human and pet hair, feathers and so forth. It also helps to extend the life of the HEPA and Carbon filters.
Other elements include Ions and PCO.
Negative Ions improve air quality by combining with dust or reacting with odour molecules attached to a wall. Negative ions exist in nature and can be found near waterfalls or in forests - which means these ions will bring the room environment closer to that of natural environments.
PCO destroys gaseous pollutants by converting them into harmless products by using UV light.
There Is Definitely A Difference:
I have had the purifier running in my home for over 2 weeks now. When I am in the lounge, I have the unit in the room with me. The air smells cleaner when I walk in, and the haze from the smoke is gone. The tickle I used to get in the back of my throat is gone.
When I go to bed, I take the unit into my bedroom. There is a huge change in my morning cough, in the way that it is barely existent.
There is definitely a huge difference in the quality of the air in both of these rooms.
The unit that I have been using is the Solenco CF8608 Air Purifier, which is also approved by the Allergy Foundation of South Africa.
There is also a smaller unit called the Solenco CF8500 which is perfect for smaller areas.
Conclusion:
This unit is worth it. The long term benefits are an investment for your wellbeing. I highly recommend this product to all.
